Tecnoambiente launches the VALUE PORTS project, with the support of Ports 4.0, to advance the management of port natural capital
Tecnoambiente has obtained the support of the Ports 4.0 Fund of Puertos del Estado to promote a new initiative aimed at strengthening environmental sustainability and natural capital management in the port sector, Value Ports. This support will enable progress to be made in the conceptual design and methodological validation of an innovative digital tool aimed at facilitating the integration of nature, biodiversity and ecosystem services into the decision-making processes of port authorities.
With extensive experience in marine and terrestrial environmental consulting, Tecnoambiente is firmly committed to protecting the marine environment, conserving natural capital and improving the relationship between ports and their surroundings. This initiative is part of this strategic vision, reinforcing the role of ports as key infrastructure in the transition towards more sustainable and resilient models that are aligned with current environmental and social challenges.
The proposal arises from the growing need for ports to have tools that enable them to understand, measure and manage their impacts and dependencies on the natural environment in a structured manner, as well as to highlight the environmental, social and economic benefits of responsible port management. In this context, the future solution aims to become a tool to support port governance, contributing to a more integrated view of natural capital and greater transparency in sustainability management.
The project is aligned with the main European and international policies and frameworks on sustainability and natural capital, such as the European Green Deal, the European Union’s 2030 Biodiversity Strategy, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the recommendations of initiatives such as the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). It also reinforces the objectives of innovation, digitalisation and sustainability promoted at the state level for the port system, helping to consolidate the role of ports as strategic hubs of the blue economy.
During this first phase, the Value Ports project will focus on laying the conceptual and methodological foundations necessary to assess the viability of a digital tool and its potential application in different port contexts. This is an initial stage aimed at exploring approaches, defining lines of work and validating the interest and usefulness of the proposal.
With the support of Ports 4.0, Tecnoambiente is reinforcing its commitment to innovation applied to port sustainability, contributing to the common goal of moving towards more efficient, resilient ports that are aligned with public policies on ecological transition and digitalisation.
This action is publicly funded by the Ports 4.0 Fund of Puertos del Estado.
